The amount of empty office space in Jakarta's central business district (CBD) has grown as supply outpaces demand, while business activity in Indonesia has slowed amid the ongoing economic slowdown of Southeast Asia's largest economy. Since 2011 Indonesia's GDP growth has been slowing due to sluggish global growth and low commodity prices. According to information from Savills Consultants Indonesia, unit of London-listed global real estate service provider Savills Plc, the office space vacancy rate in Jakarta grew from 4.8 percent in 2014 to 8.4 percent in mid-2015.

Global real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle expects condominium sales in Indonesia to post a record-breaking figure in 2014, particularly supported by the current trend in Jakarta (Indonesia’s capital city) where people continue to shift to apartment living instead of detached or attached single-unit housing. Anton Sitorus, head of research at Jones Lang LaSalle, said that despite the weaker outlook for Indonesia’s property market, both developers and buyers have shown increased interest in developing and buying property.

Business players in Indonesia's property sector are not happy with the government's intention to collect more tax from the sector in 2014 and onwards. The property sector has been one of the fastest growing sectors in Indonesia's economy in recent years as demand for property has surged significantly among Indonesia's expanding middle class, resulting in massive profit numbers for Indonesian property companies. Meanwhile, the government of Indonesia has been busy taking efforts to increase tax revenues.
