Bank Indonesia Raises Its Key Interest Rate to 5.75%, Rupiah Rate Rebounds in January 2023
The central bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) raised its benchmark interest rate (BI 7-day reverse repo rate) by 25 basis points (bps) after concluding its two-day policy meeting on 18-19 January 2023. Indonesia’s benchmark rate now stands at 5.75 percent. It also raised its deposit facility and lending facility rates by 25 bps to 5.00 percent and 6.50 percent, respectively.

Monetary Policy Analysis: Bank Indonesia Raises Its Key Interest Rate to 5.50% in December 2022
As expected, the central bank of Indonesia (henceforth: Bank Indonesia) decided to raise its benchmark interest rate (the 7-Day Reverse Repo Rate) by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.50 percent after concluding its latest (two-day) monetary policy meeting on 21-22 December 2022. Meanwhile, it also decided to raise the deposit facility and lending facility rates by 25 bps to 4.75 percent and 6.25 percent, respectively.

After all, higher interest rates is what we see happening across the world; a development that is led by the Federal Reserve (Fed) that has been aggressively raising its benchmark interest rate to fight inflation. Analysis: Bank Indonesia Opts for Monetary Tightening to Offset Pressures
For the first time in four years Bank Indonesia opted for monetary tightening by raising the benchmark interest rate (the 7-Day Reverse Repo Rate) by 25 basis points (bps) to 4.50 percent. Also the deposit facility and lending facility rates were raised by 25 bps to 3.75 percent and 5.25 percent, respectively (effective per 18 May 2018). This latest move is part of Bank Indonesia's efforts to maintain economic stability amid the high degree of uncertainty in global financial markets.

Bank Indonesia Leaves Interest Rates Unchanged in April 2018
Bank Indonesia, the central bank of Indonesia, decided to leave interest rates unchanged at the April policy meeting (18-19 April 2018). The benchmark interest rate (the 7-day Reverse Repo Rate) was kept at 4.25 percent for the seventh straight month. Meanwhile, the deposit facility and lending facility rates were maintained at 3.50 percent and 5.00 percent, respectively. R&I Upgrades Indonesia's Sovereign Credit Rating to BBB (Stable)
Rating and Investment Information, Inc (R&I), a Japan-based provider of credit ratings, investment appraisal and information services, announced that it has upgraded Indonesia's sovereign credit rating from BBB- (positive outlook) to BBB (stable outlook) per 7 March 2018. Last December, Fitch Ratings had already upgraded Indonesia's long-term foreign- and local-currency issuer default ratings to BBB (stable outlook), from BBB- previously.

The BI 7-day (Reverse) Repo Rate (BI-7 day RR Rate) was kept at 4.75 percent, while the deposit facility and lending facility rates were kept at 4.00 percent and 5.50 percent, respectively.
